Fenofibrate is used with a cholesterol-lowering diet to reduce high cholesterol and triglyceride levels in the blood. It works by increasing the breakdown and removal of triglycerides. While fenofibrate effectively lowers triglycerides, VLDL, total cholesterol, and apolipoprotein C-III, it has not been shown to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events or mortality, even when combined with a statin.
