Ankylosing Spondylitis AS

Ankylosing spondylitis (AS), also known as axial spondyloarthritis, is an inflammatory disease that can cause the bones in the spine (vertebrae) to fuse over time. This fusion reduces spine flexibility, leading to a hunched posture, and can make breathing difficult if ribs are affected. The body tries to heal by forming new bone, which eventually bridges the gaps between vertebrae, causing them to fuse and flatten the spine’s natural curves.
