Deep Vein Thrombosis/Pulmonary Embolism DVT/PE

Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) occurs when a blood clot (thrombus) forms in the deep veins of the body, usually in the legs, due to slow blood flow or vein injury. This condition can lead to leg pain or swelling, although sometimes there are no symptoms. DVT can be caused by certain medical conditions that affect blood clotting or by prolonged immobility, such as during long travel or bed rest after surgery or illness. If a clot breaks loose, it can travel to the lungs, causing a pulmonary embolism, which can be life-threatening.
