Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI) occurs when the pancreas doesn't produce enough digestive enzymes, or when the enzymes don't function properly. These enzymes are essential for breaking down food and absorbing nutrients. EPI is most commonly seen in children with cystic fibrosis and adults with chronic pancreatitis.
