Fibromyalgia is a chronic disorder characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain, along with fatigue, sleep disturbances, memory issues, and mood problems. It amplifies pain by affecting how the brain and spinal cord process signals. Symptoms can develop after an event like trauma, surgery, infection, or stress, or gradually without a clear trigger. Women are more likely to develop fibromyalgia than men, and it causes pain and tenderness throughout the body, with symptoms that can flare up unpredictably.
