Gastroesophageal reflux disease GERD

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) occurs when stomach acid frequently flows back into the esophagus, causing irritation. While occasional acid reflux is common and usually manageable, chronic acid reflux can lead to GERD, which may damage the esophagus over time. GERD often results in heartburn and other symptoms, especially after large meals or lying down soon after eating.
