Graft Versus Host Disease GVHD
Graft versus Host Disease (GvHD) is a complication that can occur after an allogeneic stem cell transplant, where hematopoietic stem cells from a donor are transplanted into the recipient's body to treat conditions like leukemia, lymphoma, or bone marrow failure diseases. In GvHD, the donor's stem cells (graft) recognize the recipient's cells (host) as foreign and attack them, leading to an immune response. This results in tissue damage and is the basis for the term "graft versus host."
