Human Immunodeficiency Virus HIV

HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) is the virus that causes AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome). It weakens the immune system by destroying T-cells, leaving the body vulnerable to infections. People with HIV may not show symptoms initially, but over time, if untreated, it can lead to AIDS. HIV spreads through contact with genital fluids during unprotected sex, blood (such as sharing needles), and from an untreated mother to her child during pregnancy, childbirth, or breastfeeding.
