Kidney Disease
Chronic kidney disease (CKD), also known as chronic renal disease, is a condition where the kidneys are damaged and lose their ability to filter waste, toxins, and extra water from the blood. This can lead to waste buildup in the body and cause dangerous levels of fluids, electrolytes, and wastes. CKD progresses gradually, often without noticeable symptoms in the early stages. If untreated, it can advance to kidney failure (end-stage kidney disease), though not everyone with CKD will reach that point.
