Peripheral Artery Disease PAD

Peripheral artery disease (PAD) occurs when plaque builds up in the arteries that supply blood to the legs, narrowing the arteries and reducing blood flow. This can cause leg pain, especially during walking (claudication), as the legs don’t receive enough oxygen and nutrients. PAD is a form of atherosclerosis, where plaque made of fat, cholesterol, and other substances slowly forms in the artery walls. It affects between 8 and 12 million Americans.
