Primary Biliary Cholangitis PBC
Primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) is a liver disease that damages the bile ducts, impairing bile flow and causing it to back up in the liver. This leads to tissue damage and scarring, eventually resulting in cirrhosis. PBC, previously called primary biliary cirrhosis, is an autoimmune condition, where the immune system mistakenly attacks healthy liver cells. While it affects both men and women, it is more common in women.
