Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a common virus that can cause respiratory infections in people of all ages, though most children are infected by age 2. In healthy adults and older children, RSV typically causes mild, cold-like symptoms that resolve in one to two weeks. However, it can lead to more severe symptoms and complications, especially in young children (under 5), older adults (over 65), and individuals with weakened immune systems.
