Drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol is a combination birth control pill that prevents pregnancy by inhibiting ovulation (the release of an egg from an ovary). It also alters cervical mucus and the uterine lining, making it more difficult for sperm to reach the uterus and for a fertilized egg to implant. In addition to contraception, this medication is used to treat moderate acne in women 14 years or older who have started menstruating and wish to use birth control.
