Duloxetine is a selective serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SSNRI) that helps balance brain chemicals linked to depression. It is used to treat major depressive disorder in adults and generalized anxiety disorder in adults and children aged seven and older. In addition, duloxetine is prescribed for adults to manage nerve pain from diabetes (diabetic neuropathy), chronic muscle or joint pain such as lower back pain and osteoarthritis, and fibromyalgia.
