Eliquis (apixaban) is an anticoagulant used to reduce the risk of stroke and blood clots in people with atrial fibrillation, prevent deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE) after hip or knee replacement surgery, and treat and prevent recurrent blood clots in the veins or lungs. It works by inhibiting Factor Xa, a key enzyme in blood clot formation.
