Epogen® (epoetin alfa)
for Kidney Disease

Epogen (epoetin alfa) is used to treat anemia in individuals with chronic kidney disease, those receiving zidovudine for HIV, and patients undergoing chemotherapy for certain cancers. It can also be used to reduce the need for blood transfusions in patients at high risk of blood loss before surgery. Epoetin alfa works by stimulating the bone marrow to produce more red blood cells, mimicking the natural hormone erythropoietin that helps prevent anemia.
