Exemestane is an aromatase inhibitor used to lower estrogen levels in postmenopausal women with hormone-sensitive breast cancer. It is prescribed for both early-stage breast cancer and advanced breast cancer that has spread. Exemestane works by irreversibly blocking aromatase, the enzyme responsible for converting androgens into estrogen.
