Lamotrigine is an anticonvulsant used alone or with other medications to treat epileptic seizures in adults and children. It is also used to delay mood episodes in adults with bipolar disorder (manic depression). Lamotrigine works by affecting certain pathways and chemicals in the brain, calming brain activity to reduce seizure risk and help manage mood changes in bipolar disorder.
