Atorvastatin is a statin used with diet, exercise, and weight loss to lower LDL ("bad") cholesterol and triglycerides, raise HDL ("good") cholesterol, and reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, and heart surgery in people with or at risk for heart disease. It may also treat inherited high cholesterol in children aged 10–17 with familial heterozygous hypercholesterolemia by slowing cholesterol production and preventing artery blockage.
