olanzapine
for Schizophrenia
Olanzapine is an atypical antipsychotic used to treat schizophrenia and bipolar I disorder in adults and adolescents aged 13 and older. For bipolar I disorder, it can be used alone for manic or mixed episodes or in combination with lithium or valproate. It may also be combined with fluoxetine for depressive episodes in those aged 10 and older. Olanzapine works by blocking receptors in the brain, particularly dopamine and serotonin, though its exact mechanism in these disorders is not fully understood.
