Ongentys® (opicapone)
for Parkinson’s Disease
Ongentys is a prescription medicine that inhibits the enzyme catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT), which is involved in breaking down neurotransmitters like dopamine, epinephrine, and norepinephrine. It is used with carbidopa and levodopa to treat "off" episodes in Parkinson's disease, such as stiffness, tremors, and muscle spasms. Ongentys works by slowing the breakdown of levodopa, helping to extend its effects and improve symptoms of Parkinson's disease. It belongs to the class of COMT inhibitors.
