Oxycontin® (oxycodone hydrochloride)
for Pain
OxyContin (oxycodone hydrochloride) is an opioid pain medication used to treat severe ongoing pain not controlled by other treatments. It contains oxycodone, which helps reduce pain by activating opioid receptors in the nervous system. OxyContin is an extended-release tablet taken every 12 hours and is not for occasional use. It carries a risk of overdose and death. It is prescribed for adults and children 11 years and older with severe pain requiring long-term opioid therapy when other treatments are ineffective.
