Prevacid (lansoprazole) is a proton pump inhibitor that reduces stomach acid production. It is used to treat and prevent stomach and intestinal ulcers, erosive esophagitis, and conditions involving excessive stomach acid, such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Prevacid is not intended for immediate heartburn relief.
