Somatuline Depot (lanreotide) is a man-made protein similar to somatostatin, a hormone that regulates substances like insulin, glucagon, and growth hormone. It is used in adults to treat acromegaly when surgery or radiation is ineffective, carcinoid syndrome, and certain pancreatic or digestive tract tumors. Somatuline Depot works by lowering growth hormone levels to normal, helping prevent complications like diabetes and heart disease. It may also slow tumor growth and reduce symptoms of carcinoid syndrome.
