Twirla (levonorgestrel and ethinyl estradiol) is a combination birth control patch that prevents pregnancy in women. It contains two hormones: levonorgestrel (a progestin) and ethinyl estradiol (an estrogen). Twirla works primarily by preventing ovulation, changing cervical mucus to block sperm from entering the uterus, and altering the uterine lining to reduce the chances of a fertilized egg implanting.
