Zytiga (abiraterone acetate) is used with steroid medication (prednisone or methylprednisolone) to treat prostate cancer that has spread to other parts of the body. It works by blocking the CYP17 enzyme, which is essential for making androgens, male hormones that promote tumor growth. By reducing androgen levels, Zytiga helps shrink the tumor and slow cancer growth in men whose prostate cancer cannot be treated with surgery or other medicines.
